Nikki Hertzler lives at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and loves exploring them with her husband, children, and friends. As a teacher, a lot of the exploration happens in the summer break. Then during the school year, she gets to dive back into sharing the joys of reading with her students. For the last several years, she has also gotten to share her life with her foster children.

When her three children were approaching adulthood and the inevitable “empty nest” drew near, Nikki and her husband Jeff looked at each other and said, “Let’s foster.” That began their chaotic new parenting era. In the last few years, they have hosted nearly a dozen children from the ages of 8 months to 9 years. Each day is filled with the special situations that makes her knees creak from being on them so much in front of the Lord God.
